Hadley saved my life…and I ruined hers

Hadley's my best friend. We share a house, our friends, a life. She knows all my secrets…except one. My desperate need for her is inked on my body, it's the best I can do. But Hadley needs to hear the words…

Growing up as foster kids, Hadley made me feel whole—sane. And what did I do? I destroyed our chance to be together. I ran out on Hadley when I should have stayed, and something broke between us. Now I'll do anything to fix it.

I'll never leave her again. I won't ever let her feel afraid again. But the more I try to protect her from my pain, the more I just make things worse. I'm terrified that if I tell her everything, she'll never forgive me. I'm even more terrified that it may be too late to make her mine. I have to try to give her what she needs…it's a debt I'm determined to repay.

3.5 Star Review by Ashley

I am a sucker for a good cover and this one grabbed my attention- tattooed and troubled soul, sign me up. While I liked how different The Debt was from anything I've read there were parts that were a tad hard to follow. I found myself wondering if it was one of the flashbacks, a memory or happening in the present. BUT that did not detract from the overall feel of the book.

I think my favorite part of the whole story was Josh's growth. This guy really got to me with his tortured but kind heart. He used the physical pain of tattoos and piercings to mask his emotions coursing through him. His friendship with Hadley was his saving grace from the demons of this past. Their bond was forged in the most unlikely of circumstances and withstood all that they had been put through- until one night changed everything. Oh my heart ached for them both- so unsteady and just lost without the other.

I didn't expect the dangerous twist this book took but thank goodness it did. It forced Josh's hand and made him come to terms with everything that had been going wrong. From his music to his relationship with Hadley. They were both so much of who he was that when one was off the rest of him was too. And as his heart healed the music just poured out of him. It was beautiful to read and I could hear it in my ears- the songs of his life, of his soul.

The Debt is original and heartfelt. The characters are realistic and wonderful in their humanness. Josh and Hadley's story was far from perfect but it was theirs and they owned every broken piece of it. Tyler King has a lot to be proud of with her debut release and I'm looking forward to see more from her in the future.
