They say most people meet the person they will marry while in high school. Balancing one another perfectly, Holly Ryan and Declan James were together through most of college—until their relationship blew up, leaving Declan with more questions than answers.
For the past two years, Declan has tried everything he can think of to earn Holly’s forgiveness, but even if he manages to help her let go of the past and give them another chance at happiness, she still has a secret. Not to mention, she can’t get over the revolving door of women he seems to have coming in and out of his apartment. Declan is desperate to prove to Holly she’s the one for him and isn’t above using his celebrity status or enlisting the help of their friends to win her back. All’s fair in love and war, right? 3.5 Star Review by Ashley
I'm a big D. Kelly fan so I didn't even read the synopsis before jumping into The Evolution of Us. I rather enjoyed the back and forth, seeing the progression of Declan and Holly's relationship. Strangers. Neighbors. Friends. Best Friends. Lovers. Heartbroken....that is where the story starts.
I liked that while the story focused on Holly and Declan, their best friends- Sage and Bax- played such a significant role. They showed a lighter, less stressed side to both of these characters who were going through a lot. I thoroughly enjoyed Dec's relentless pursuit of Holly. He wanted his woman back and he was going to do whatever it took to make that happen. But Holly was no push-over, she made him work for it, asked the tough questions- even when she knew she wouldn't like the answer. And kudos to Dec for answering her honestly. But Holly was also harboring a secret... I can honestly say I didn't see that little twist coming. However, this is D. Kelly- I should've known something life altering was coming. I think Dec handled the news better than anyone expected, especially Holly. There were a lot of ups and downs with these two but in the end, what was in their hearts was finally enough to overrule the emotions swirling through their heads. Declan and Holly's story proves that if it's strong enough, and if you want it bad enough, love can get you through just about anything. And that ending...happy sigh. About the Author
