I have to admit when I heard Leylah Attar was writing about Rafael I was a bit nervous. I loved this guy in The Paper Swan and I didn't want that feeling to get tarnished. No need to worry because this dark and twisty tale made me love him even more. And while the story is focused mainly on Vee, so much of it revolved around Rafael and his story. My chest hurt so much reading those scenes from the past. For the boy and girl who had lost in the worst way. The teens struggling to find their footing. The man left reeling after one night changed the trajectory of his future. When I say I couldn't put this down..I mean it. I was consumed by these characters. Addicted to the mystery and danger. The layers and layers of secrets that slowly unraveled in the middle of this epic love story. A love that withstood life and time and circumstance. Did I figure out one of the 'twists' early on. Yes. Did I peg the other two? Nope. My jaw was on the floor and I was reading as fast as my eyeballs would allow to see how it all would pan out.And that ending...it was the perfectly full circle moment that Vee and Rafael so richly deserved.
