Life is short. At twenty-one, Liz Kane knows this. Having lost her dad in combat, she is well aware of life's cruel twists. Still, working to pay her way through school and cautiously beginning a new relationship, Liz is content.
When an accident brings her brother, John, Stateside from his current stint in the Marine's, life gives Liz another twist, this time bringing in an old friend, new love, and the possibility of happiness for John when he meets Mandy.
This is a story of love, loss, and new beginnings.

Review by Ashley

I picked up this book after chatting with Sophie Monroe at a book signing that I attended earlier in the year. She was extremely kind and gracious in speaking with me, a reader who had never heard of her before. Well it took me a few months to actually read To Love a Soldier but I am so glad that I finally picked it up. It is a fast paced, heart felt story that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. I make no secret about my love for a man in uniform but this particular military man was something special.

There is a lot happening in this book. The story is told from multiple POV's but focuses mainly on two female characters Liz and Mandy. Now Liz and Mandy have a rocky start to say the least. But when Liz finds herself in a troubling situation, it was Mandy who was there to lend a hand. From there a deep and wonderful sistership formed. It is through that crazy circumstance that Mandy comes to meet John, Liz's brother who just happens to be a Marine.

I loved Mandy and her boldness in going after who and what she wanted. She wasn't shy about her desire for John and he doesn't take much convincing (he is a guy after all). What started out as insta-lust became so much more though. His relationship forced John to take a long, hard look at what he really wanted for his future and to make some tough choices. And while this sweet new love is blossoming, there is still the threat of the unknown with the Liz situation.

The last quarter of this book is heart pounding. There is closure for Liz but not without having me holding my breath. And just when I think it was going to be all sunshine and rainbows for this family who had already suffered so much...BAM! heartbroken. It took me a good bit to read the last few chapters because of the tears streaming down my face.

Sophie Monroe absolutely nailed it with To Love a Soldier. She managed to balance humor, sweetness, anxiety, dedication, hope, fear and love into a story that is perfectly relevant in today's world. It is about finding strength and hope from within when all seems lost. I was deeply moved by this book and its message will stay with me for quite some time.
