Forensic accountant Annie Griffin has always suspected she's a bit jinxed, so when she finds herself 35, single, temporarily homeless, and pregnant on a technicality by a gigolo, her fears are confirmed. Adrenaline junkie and professional stuntman Max Bowen needs a house-sitter to watch after his pets while he's out of town. Annie needs a place to stay. Standard quid pro quo. No biggie. She can handle that, whatever hellhounds he owns. Until Max, the most sought-after bachelor in the county, comes back ahead of schedule and suddenly she's roommates with a 27-year old sex God who turns out to be so much more than what she expected. Max might have had the attention span of a humming bird on crack when it comes to women, but that was before Annie. Her quirkiness and sweet contradictions soon captivate him, not that she's inclined to give him the time of the day. With his reputation preceding him, he knows the odds are badly stacked against him, but he will do his best to prove her that he's what she needs, stuck-up socialite grandmothers, doomsday preppers, groupies, pregnancy hormones, and repentant biological dads be damned. Review by Amanda To the Max is book number 3 in the Bowen Series. Each book can be read as a standalone, however, the characters from the other books are brought into each story, so I would definitely recommend reading the first 2 books first. The story begins with us being reintroduced to Annie, the night of Tate and James' wedding. We soon discover that she is pregnant as a result of a gigolo from Studs R Us - hilarious right?? She doesn't really know what to do at this point. At 35, she knows that her child bearing days are limited. The option to have and keep the baby is the only one for her. Suffering with a severe bout of morning sickness, she cannot handle sweet smells. This can be more than a little bit of a problem when your business involves sweets and sweet treats. She also has another issue in that she needs to move out of her apartment for the next few months, a fire ransacked the building and renovations mean that all apartments need to be evacuated. Enter charming daredevil, stuntman extraordinaire and "boob enhancer" Max Bowen. He has the perfect solution for Annie - move into his house while he is on location filming his latest movie. This means that his "girls" Tango and Cash will also have someone nearby to take care of them. Initially Annie feels that this would be a very bad idea, however, after a disasterous few nights staying with Holly, she finally succumbs and decides to take up Max on his offer. Things get a little weird when he ends up having to come back early. They soon become roommates, best friends and even start sharing a bed. Annie has been having a terrible time of sleeping, and the only time she ever gets any rest, is when she is in Max's bed, and he is massaging her. As feelings between the two start to develop, we see Annie trying to harden her resolve, Max trying to convince her that he is more than just a playboy womaniser, and the two at an impasse that may never be crossed. There is also the issue of an 8 year age difference - Annie feels that this is something that is going to be nearly impossible for them to overcome, even though Max has told her several times this is not something that even bothers him. The gigolo, who fathered Annie's child, also starts making a reappearance. He and Annie begin dating, she feels that she owes it to him to keep him in her child's life. With all these forces working against them - will Max and Annie find their happily ever after? Is age really nothing but a number and can Annie see past it? This book had me in ABSOLUTE stitches! Max is down right hilarious - he is not someone that ever holds back, and he tells you exactly how it is. He is also the typical alpha male, and even though he is a lot younger than Annie, it definitely did not detract from his alphaness. Let me also just say that the sex scenes in this book are OFF the chart, and I promise you will leave you fanning your face! I only have 2 words here - sex swing... Max is HOT and hot blooded. WOW! He is also a typical Bowen man - he knows what he wants and he sets out to get it, and nothing and no one will stop him. Annie is the epitome of a gentile lady. She is someone that sees no grey in the world, things are very black and white. She is a strong leading lady and I loved her. She did struggle with the age difference between herself and Max, and I think as women we can definitely understand that, especially when your partner is gorgeous and virile. I loved seeing her develop throughout the book. She went from being this timid, shy lady to being incredibly self aware and knowing exactly what it is she wants. I loved the secondary characters in the book - the Bowens of course were never in doubt. We also get to know Annie's friends and we hear all about their book club - where they only read romance, or as Max calls it "cliteratutre". Some of the scenes where they discuss books will have you laughing out loud! Hilarious! Annie's mom and her stepdad stole the show for me, I wish we could have seen a bit more of them. They are survivalists/preppers - who do these drills and send care packages in anticipation of the world ending. We all know people like this and these scenes made me laugh out loud, especially the scene with the live evacuation drill. I freaking loved this book - the prose is witty, hilarious and smoking hot. Elle Aycart makes you fall in love with yet another Bowen brother, and quite honestly, at this point, I am not sure who I love more anymore. Perhaps, Elle will just be kind enough and let me have all 3... I am giving this book 4.5 amazing stars. Elle, you make me swoon, laugh, cry and hyperventilate all in one RIDICULOUSLY phenomenal book. I cannot wait to read what comes next. Meet Elle Aycart After a colorful array of jobs all over Europe ranging from translator to chocolatier to travel agent to sushi chef to flight dispatcher, Elle Aycart is certain of one thing and one thing only: aside from writing romances, she has abso-frigging-lutely no clue what she wants to do when she grows up. Not that it stops her from trying all sorts of crazy stuff. While she is probably now thinking of a new profession, her head never stops churning new plots for her romances. She lives currently in Barcelona, Spain, with her husband and two daughters, although who knows, in no time she could be living at the Arctic Circle in Finland, breeding reindeer. Elle loves to hear from readers! [email protected] Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Elle-Aycart/380858418611512?fref=ts
