Four Star Review by AshleyI don't know what I was thinking...this book has been sitting on my kindle for over a year now! I am so glad that I went back and dug it out because I really enjoyed it. I'll admit, I went a bit out of order. I read other books from Joanne Schwehm that have the main characters from Unexpected Chance in them. It was nice seeing the parallels in the books but they also work as standalone. That being said, I kinda knew how things would pan out in the end. What I didn't know was the intense and painful journey Aubrey and Alex took. I went back and forth on my feelings about Aubrey. I liked that she was following her heart and chasing her dream of being a writer. But not just any writer, a romance writer. Only problem is she knows nothing about romance. She has never been swept off of her feet or in love. Her best friend Julie comes up with a plan to help set her need of finding a muse into action and the results are downright comical. But when she lays her eyes on the tall, dark and gorgeous man that is Alex Logan she is literally stunned stupid. There is something about him that she can't deny, even after the first few hours they spend together. Alex- sigh- that man is what dreams are made of. He is as guarded as he is giving and as serious as he is sweet. Unknowingly he gives Aubrey everything she never knew she was missing. From flowers to kisses to rides home. He falls fast and hard for this shy and caring woman who allows him to be himself. For the first time in what feels like forever, both of their walls are coming down. There is an ease and lightness to their relationship that proved just how well suited they were for one another. They share their fears and dreams with each other. There is no judgement only acceptance and honesty. Well almost, there is the tiny secret that Aubrey is hiding from Alex about her intentions with him from when they first met. Of course, just as things are looking up for Alex and Aubrey the cat is let out of the bag. Alex reacts poorly (that is putting it mildly). I felt for him because he has always been used for what people could get from him. Things go from bad to worse when an accident leaves Aubrey with her world turned completely upside down. She is alone and in the dark. Alex is beside himself and will do whatever it takes to win back Aubrey and her heart. Aubrey, that stubborn woman just wants to recover and try to get over Alex and how he hurt her. So she does what she is best at, she ran- to Paris. While she is recovering from her accident she meets someone who makes her feel like herself for the first time in a long time, Chance. She is able to share her pain and hurt without holding back. But she also accepts the fact that Alex is not solely to blame for her predicament. When an opportunity to return back to the states to further her recovery, Aubrey knows she is about to come face to face with Alex. As she shares the news with her friend. Well, as it turns out Chance has a few surprises for Aubrey as well...like his true identity. WOW! Talk about jaw dropper- I didn't see that one coming at all. And that is where this book ends. Unexpected Chance is a perfect title for this book. It was unexpected and equal parts sexy and sweet. Joanne Schwehm, in her writing debut, gave me a charming cast of flawed characters that I found myself rooting for. There was a good balance between the humor, drama (and there was plenty of that), steaminess and swoon. I can not wait to see what she has in store next for Alex and Aubrey and where their journey will go from here.
